Ebola, the CDC and why government struggles with unprecedented disasters

The Washington Post: Thomas Frieden, the razor-jawed director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a good talker. A man who stays cool in hot situations, he helped stop several outbreaks of tuberculosis as a New York City health commissioner, banned public smoking in the city and almost joyfully trumpeted many of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s controversial health policies. True to form, he has faced the cameras numerous times in the past two weeks, but under very different circumstances.
