Postal service agrees to hire 9,000 clerks to staff post offices

Federal Times: A Postal Service union arbitration victory will mean the creation of 9,000 union-backed clerk jobs within the next 90 days, according to an announcement.

The decision stems from a plan by the Postal Service — PostPlan — to reduce the hours of operation at many post offices by two, four or six hours a day and replace some postmasters with non-career employees or part-time career employees.
