The Obama administration has proposed to boost the value of two types of death benefits paid when federal employees die for reasons related to their official duties, one of which hasn’t been increased in five decades while the other has not changed in nearly two decades.

A legislative proposal sent to Capitol Hill Friday would substantially raise each and then link their value to inflation.
