Senate passes $8 billion opioid bill to stop the flow of illegal drugs and for treatment efforts

Healthcare Finance: A landmark Senate bill that provides $8 billion in funding to stop the flow of illegal opioids from other countries, and supports local programs for prevention, treatment and recovery, passed by a rare near-unanimous vote Monday night.

The United States Senate approved The Opioid Crisis Response Act of 2018 in a vote of 99-1. The legislation would disburse nearly $8 billion to federal agencies, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as to state governments.
