CMS overpaid nearly $730 million in meaningful use incentives, OIG says

Healthcare IT News: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services overpaid more than $729 million in incentive payments to eligible providers that didn’t meet meaningful use requirements, according to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General report released Monday.

The amount -- about 12 percent of the total incentive payments for electronic health record incentive payments -- occurred because the sample of eligible providers didn’t maintain support for attestations, officials said.
