Coffey Health to Pay $250K for Falsely Attesting to HITECH Risk Analysis

Health IT Security: Kansas-based Coffey Health System has reached a $250,000 settlement with the Department of Justice for allegedly violating the False Claims Act when it falsely claimed to have performed a risk analysis as required by the HITECH Act.

According to the notice, US Department of Justice officials found Coffey Health attested to performing security risk analyses during the 2012 and 2013 reporting period under the federal incentive program. However, Coffey submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid programs pursuant to the EHR Incentive Program.
