Al.com: The federal government will reimburse about 2,000 companies, unions and municipalities -- including 11 in Alabama -- for the health care costs of many early retirees, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday.
The government's $5 billion Early Retiree Reinsurance Program is part of the Obama administration's health care overhaul and is intended to serve as a bridge to health insurance exchanges to be established in 2014. The program, which approved its first applicants Tuesday, will expire when the exchanges are in place.
