Code for America's New California Partnership Targets Food Stamp 'Participation Gap'

Route Fifty: Through a partnership with California’s state government, Code for America announced Wednesday that it is making GetCalFresh.org, a tool that allows people to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits over the phone, available statewide.  

Currently, there are 2 million Californians are who are eligible for food stamp benefits but have not applied, according to Code for America’s announcement. Closing that “participation gap” is a major service delivery challenge for CalFresh, as the state’s SNAP benefits are called.
