Gov. John Carney says no end-of-the-year evaluations for Delaware teachers
End-of-the-year evaluations, professional development requirements and assessments for Delaware teachers have been waived in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, according to the latest modification to Gov. John Carney's state of emergency.
The announcement comes two weeks after Carney announced that Delaware schools would remain closed for the school year. Carney waived required learning hours for students but said that school districts and charter schools must still complete remote learning plans that they submitted to the Department of Education.
The latest change also comes as schools contemplate virtual graduation ceremonies for students and have to cancel sporting events and proms.

“Students and educators across our state, especially our 2020 senior class, have been significantly affected by this COVID-19 crisis,” Carney said in a statement. “These changes in our latest modification will make sure students and educators are not punished because of the shortened school year."
Carney also extended the season for commercial anchored grill net fishers from May 10 to June 1 under the latest modification.
On Monday, Carney is expected to announce additional plans slated for June 1 to slowly reopen the state.
