NORTHAMPTON -Hampshire Council of Governments will receive funds from the Community Innovation Challenge grant program to create the 'Hampshire Cloud'.

The grant incentivizes and supports regionalization and other cost saving initiatives that will change the way local governments do business to maintain service delivery and stretch every taxpayer dollar as far as possible, according to a news release. The grant is for $105,000.

The Hampshire Cloud is an information technology infrastructure project coordinated by the Council in partnership with the Town of Amherst and Paragus Strategic I.T. based in Hadley. The grant will continue the pioneering work established under the 2013 CIC grant and is designed to bring effective and efficient I.T. management directly into town offices, saving them thousands of dollars.

Hampshire Cloud serves Hadley, Chesterfield, Westhampton, and Rowe. Amherst provides server capacity for data backup and shared software, while Paragus provides technical expertise and conversion through the 3-year-old Hampshire I.T. program, also administered through the council.
