The U.S. Department of Defense announced Monday that Fort Huachuca in southeastern Arizona will break ground Friday on a solar array whose panels will provide one-quarter of the U.S. Army base’s electricity needs.
The 18-megawatt solar power plant will be the largest installation on a U.S. military base, demonstrating the military's increasing reliance on alternative energy, reports AZCentral.com.
Currently, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson houses the DOD’s largest solar array.
