Boston mayor appoints first-ever Chief Digital Officer

Boston now has its first-ever Chief Digital Officer- 28-year-old Lauren Lockwood.

City officials announced on Thursday that Boston Mayor Martin Walsh had appointed Lockwood to the position. In her role, Lockwood is tasked with uniting and strengthening the city’s digital assets, including web, e-government, video and mobile platforms.

Lockwood will lead a digital team responsible fortransforming citizen experience in three major areas: digital media, digital services, and digital engagement.

“Boston has a national reputation for its delivery of digital services.,” said Lauren Lockwood. “I’m thrilled to be a part of the team that takes the existing foundation to the next level.”

The position is part of the Department of Innovation & Technology’sleadership team and will report to the Chief Information Officer, Jascha Franklin-Hodge.

Walsh saidthe use of digital solutions to drive efficiency in government is a cornerstone to his administration.

“The Chief Digital Officer will enhance the way we are communicating and doing business with residents online, making us a better, more responsive government,” said Walsh.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Locwood graduated from Harvard Business School in 2014, and previously worked for HourlyNerd, a consulting platform, as a product manager.
