Audit: N.Y.'s mental health facilities not ensuring families notified of abuse, neglect
Times Union: An audit of New York's psychiatric facilities found poor compliance with a 2007 law designed to protect the health and safety of residents in state-run and -licensed facilities.
Jonathan's Law requires facilities to notify family and caregivers of abuse, neglect or other potentially harmful incidents within 24 hours, and expands access to written reports and other records related to the event. It was named for Jonathan Carey, who died at 13 years old after being crushed to death by a caretaker who worked for the since-shuttered O.D. Heck facility in Niskayuna.
