Brief: Tech Glitch Stalls Use of EBT Cards in Massachusetts

The outage lasted an hour and was not caused by the government shutdown.

(TNS) — A temporary technological hiccup on Wednesday prevented customers from using their EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards for about an hour.

According to the state Department of Transitional Services, the outage occurred due to a technology error at the vendor that distributes EBT cards.

The outage prevented anyone from using the cards for about an hour, according to a spokesman.

The outage had nothing to do with the federal government shutdown, they said.

It is not known how many people tried to use their card during the outage.
