Norman, Okla., PD Launches Online Crime Map

The map, RAIDS Online, allows residents to view crimes in the area, sign up for neighborhood watch reports, and submit anonymous tips about a crime directly to a law enforcement agency.

Residents can track the frequency and type of crimes occurring in their neighborhoods by using a new online crime map called RAIDS Online.

Norman police say they have partnered with BAIR Analytics Inc. to provide the map so the public can stay informed about local crime.

RAIDS Online, at www.raidsonline.com, maps and analyzes crime data, alerts residents about crimes in their area and allows police to quickly alert the public about crimes as they occur.

Norman Capt. Tom Easley said residents can view a map and grid with all of the crimes in the area, sign up for neighborhood watch reports that automatically email a breakdown of recent crime activity, and submit anonymous tips about a crime directly to a law enforcement agency.

RAIDS Online automatically syncs with the police department’s records system to keep crime information updated online and in a mobile app, Easley said. Crime data is cleaned and geocoded to display the incidents on a map, grid and analytics dashboard, along with basic information about the incidents, such as type of crime, location, block-level address, date and time.

BAIR Analytics offers RAIDS Online and the RAIDS Online Mobile App as a free service to any law enforcement agency that wishes to participate. RAIDS Online is ad-free, and BAIR Analytics does not sell data to third-party vendors, said Sean Bair, founder of BAIR Analytics.

“We consider this a basic service that we are more than happy to provide to the public and our law enforcement friends,” said Bair, a former police officer and analyst.

RAIDS Online Mobile empowers citizens to better understand crime trends and lower crime in their area, he said.

The RAIDS Online Mobile app is available free on the App Store, and anyone can visit Norman’s crime map at www.raidsonline.com.
