SEC Moves Ahead With 'Crowdfunding' Proposal

The Wall Street Journal (online registration required): Startups and entrepreneurs could soon reach larger numbers of potential investors through investment websites under "crowdfunding" rules proposed by federal regulators.

The Securities and Exchange Commission, in a 5-0 vote, outlined a plan aimed at helping startup companies sell shares online, allowing them to pool together small amounts of capital from ordinary investors.
