Why Congress and Obama are on same page for once about big government and the auto industry

Forbes: The federal government agency responsible for regulating vehicle safety, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA], part of President Obama’s Department of Transportation, is now pushing automakers to offer collision avoidance systems in all their cars–not just pricey ones–by making them part of the agency’s coveted 5-Star crash safety ratings that auto companies love to tout in advertising.

The coming change in the agency’s current crash rating system–assigning value in the rating for offering state-of-the-art collision avoidance system like lane-departure warning, forward collision warning systems and rear visibility cameras–has something for both political parties in Washington normally divided over new industry regulation.
