Could plugging orphan wells keep the suffering oil industry afloat?

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Proposals to fund plugging of abandoned old oil and gas wells are gaining support across the U.S. as a way to restore jobs for oil workers displaced during the pandemic-driven price crash.

The concept is being promoted by state regulators, industry trade groups and environmental organizations as a way to sustain employment while cleaning up a longstanding environmental problem that has been drastically underfunded.
