Alliant Energy to retire 380 MW coal-fired unit said to have lost millions with uneconomic scheduling

Utility Dive: Coal-fired power formerly dominated the Wisconsin energy mix, but for the first time in 2019 the fuel made up less than half of the state's electricity consumption at 42%, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The state's transition away from coal and toward natural gas and renewables is one that is happening across the country as utilities realize retiring uneconomic coal early can save customers money.
