Hydrogen pilot projects could eventually boost nuclear plants’ bottom lines

Energy News Network: Midwest nuclear power generators are exploring the potential of producing hydrogen on site as a way to reduce costs and create new revenue — a move that could also boost the region’s growing fuel cell industry.

Department of Energy grants will let Energy Harbor (formerly FirstEnergy Solutions) and Exelon use some of the electricity at one of their respective nuclear plants to power the separation of water into hydrogen and oxygen by hydrolysis.
