HHS rollback of protections for transgender people could make it harder to provide care

Healthcare IT News: On Friday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Civil Rights moved to roll back protections for transgender people under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which bans discrimination in healthcare.

The final rule, which goes into effect 60 days after it was announced, reverses Obama-era expansions of sex-based discrimination under Section 1557 to include gender identity or the desire to obtain an abortion.
