Louisiana conservatives make bid to restrain state spending amid coronavirus. Will it pass?

The Advocate: At a time when the coronavirus pandemic has blown a giant hole in the state budget, conservative legislators see an opportunity to push through restrictions in government spending that have failed in the past.

Four measures approved Tuesday by the House Appropriations Committee would try to restrain state spending – which would inevitably mean less money for teacher pay, police protection, health care for the poor and housing state inmates.
