Disasters and the Budgetary Impact on the Fed’s Response

Homeland Security Today: As spending for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma winds down, the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) Dan Hoople, an analyst in the Budget Analysis Division, said in a recent report that “spending for activities related to Hurricane Sandy will be gearing up, and that CBO “estimates that spending by FEMA, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), US Army Corps of Engineers and Department of Transportation will represent more than 90 percent of all appropriations specifically targeted to respond to Sandy.
