Federal Agencies Need to Enhance Responses to Data Breaches, GAO Says

Homeland Security Today: The number of reported information security breaches of government agencies that have involved personally identifiable information (PII) has more than doubled over the last several years, from 10,481 in 2009, to more than 25,000 in 2013, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) audit.

Since 1997, GAO has designated information security as a government-wide high-risk area.
