Louisiana bears brunt of Hurricane Laura as utility COVID-19 protocols threaten restoration time

Utility Dive: For months, the electric utility sector has been preparing for this: sending tens of thousands of utility workers to restore power after a major storm —  while navigating new social distancing and pandemic protocols. Experts say the new rules could have some impact on restoration, but do not anticipate significant slowdowns.

Crews from around the country are now assisting local utilities in restoring power, while implementing changes to how they work in order limit the spread of COVID-19, said Scott Aaronson, vice president of security and preparedness for EEI.
