Despite Risks, Some States Still Use Paperless Voting Machines

Governing: For years, paperless voting machines have been characterized as an election security hazard. Without an auditable paper trail, security experts say vote tabulation runs the risk of producing results inconsistent with the voters' choices, either because of hacking or technical errors.
