New York passes $168 billion budget
Times Union: Lawmakers finalized New York's $168 billion 2018-19 spending plan early Saturday morning, less than 24 hours before the April 1 deadline.
The final document includes measures intended to protect New Yorkers from federal tax changes, sweeping sexual harassment legislation, $26.7 billion in education aid, and $12 million for the city of Albany to plug its 2018-19 budget gap.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who called the spending plan his most difficult, noted that the state is facing a $4.4 billion budget deficit and that the recent federal tax overhaul has capped state and local tax deductions known as SALT.
