Integrated Child Welfare and Education Data Systems

Data-smart City Solutions:  One of the greatest challenges facing child welfare systems in the United States is the frequency with which foster children are transferred from one home or placement to another. A major consequence of this instability is the disruption it creates in the education of foster children; moving homes usually means moving schools.

In order to combat some of the attendant effects of educational discontinuity – such as schools not having access to information about what classes a student has taken at a previous school or how she has performed – cities and states around the country have been working to integrate data from the foster care and education systems.
